Arthur began her career on stage in and made her Broadway debut in The Threepenny Opera in Her film appearances included Lovers and Other Strangers and Mame Inthe Frankel family relocated to Cambridge, Marylandwhere her parents subsequently operated a women's clothing shop. At age 16, Frankel developed a serious condition called Coagulopathyin which her blood would not clot.
